Motivated by a desire to make communication more inclusive, Jayashruthi developed a wearable sign language glove that bridges the gap between deaf or hard of hearing individuals and those who can hear. Her innovative design translates hand gestures into speech and converts spoken responses back into text, displayed on a screen attached to the glove.

The device integrates flex and movement sensors to detect signs and a facial expression analysis system that adjusts tone and emotion in real time—creating more natural, human-like conversations. By combining accessibility, empathy, and advanced technology, Jayashruthi’s project enables true two-way communication and connection.

Inspired by the limitations of existing tools—often costly, bulky, or restricted to pre-set phrases—she set out to design a portable, affordable, and intuitive solution that restores the flow and authenticity of everyday conversations. Her proof of concept represents a remarkable step forward in inclusive innovation and human-centred design.
