Deenah Quadri

School:

State:

Queensland

Award Category:

Young Leader Of The Year

Level Of Achievement:

National Award Winner 2023

After enduring significant bullying in primary school due to wearing a hijab, Deenah made a resolute decision to emerge as leader. Although this negatively impacted her, and she stopped playing sports for a year, it ultimately empowered her to summon the confidence and fortitude needed to stand up for her beliefs and resume her sporting career.

This challenging experience made her more attuned to the struggles faced by individuals who, like her, encountered adversity due to their physical differences. It ignited a passion within her to collaborate with the senior leadership team and cultivate an environment where everyone, regardless of their differences, feels valued.

Through her experience as a victim of bullying and her active involvement on the school’s senior leadership team, Deenah honed invaluable leadership qualities, including empathy, resilience, advocacy, conflict resolution and teamwork.

Her leadership approach prioritises open communication, mutual respect, and the creation of an inclusive space where everyone’s ideas are not only heard but also incorporated into various projects.
